protect the rights of renters

Add your name to help strengthen renter protections and prevent homelessness in Canada

Renters deserve to be able to stay in their homes.

But across Canada, renters are facing an affordability crisis that threatens the very roofs over their heads while navigating a housing system that provides far too little support.

Without strong, consistent renter protections, families and individuals are losing their homes due to skyrocketing rents, evictions and renovictions, and other systemic issues like lack of legal aid.

We’re calling on the federal government to exercise national leadership through the Renter’s Bill of Rights and the Tenant Protection Fund to protect renters across Canada.

This means:

  • Making public the annual reports required by the Renters’ Bill of Rights to hold provinces/territories accountable for aligning with the Canada’s human right to housing;
  • Protecting renters from unfair evictions and rent hikes through vacancy and rent control;
  • Ensuring fair, accessible complaint and resolution processes; and
  • Supporting renters with legal aid, tenant organizing, and stronger enforcement mechanisms.

Everyone in Canada deserves a safe, affordable, and stable place to call home—but unless concrete protections are in place, building new affordable homes will mean little if existing renters keep losing theirs.
