The Government of Canada’s National Housing Strategy (NHS) commits to address the housing needs of the most vulnerable, promote community building and encourage partnerships to advance the right to housing.
The National Right to Housing Network partnered up with CERA to produce pamphlets reviewing the extent to which the goals set out in the NHS are being met through a rights-based lens.
This pamphlet reviews the extent to which governmental budgeting and resource allocation is meeting the goals set out in the NHS through a rights-based lens.
It highlights how NHS investments fall short of the federal government’s goals and obligations to realize the right to adequate housing for all—and offers guidance on how to better align these programs with Canada’s international human rights obligations.
